I had the pleasure and honor of meeting with Sue Fajgier from New Jersey Digest in November 2023 to discuss “what does doula do?” Fajgier overheard the term “doula” at a get together over the summer when someone asked why I was not there. Unsurprisingly, I was at a birth. (As the saying goes “I’ll be there, unless I’m at a birth”) This peaked Fajgier’s interest and she started researching more about this profession. With her research came more questions and a fascination for this line of work. She also admitted she wished she had known about this kind of support when she was pregnant, and decided she wanted to write an article to spread the word about doula support and debunk myths and misconceptions. So we made a date and sat down to dive into all things doula related.

We hope you enjoy this article and find it informative, empowering and perhaps even inspiring (for anyone who has thought to become a certified doula!).
